iHome iP99: The first iPhone-ready clock radio

Jake Bechtold | April 16, 2008

You know how much I love iHome stuff. Yesterday, they released the iHome iP99.

Meet the new iP99, the world’s first clock radio for the iPhone! Designed and engineered to shield and avoid annoying iPhone/mobile phone TDMA noise so no airplane mode is required which means that you’ll never miss a call again when your iPhone is docked. The iP99 is packed with lots of innovative features, including alarm settings to complement your lifestyle so you can wake to your own custom iPhone playlist at different times on different days, a remote that controls the unit and iPod menu functions, AM/FM radio with presets, programmable snooze settings, and 3D sound for an enhanced audio experience. With our Reson8 speaker chambers, you’ll be able to enjoy great stereo sound around the clock.

That’s right- all the usual iHome goodies, but with iPhone compatibility. While I don’t have an iPhone, I am thinking about a new iHome (mine’s going on 3 year old) and this might be the one- we’ll. The iP99 doesn’t ship until June, but you can pre-order now. The iP99 will set you back about $150.

The Bluelounge Gadget Sanctuary

Jake Bechtold | April 3, 2008

If you’re like me, your dresser become a mess at night, charing your phone, iPod, camera, and who knows what else. It’s a cable hell! But it can be eliminated thanks to the Bluelounge Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is a beautiful, simple solution to a real everyday problem. A place to put the multitude of personal items we all carry around so they are easily located again when later needed and, always fully charged.

The simple and compact design conceals a universal charger compatible with over 1500 electronic devices from most major brands and a USB port allowing hundreds more electronic devices to be charged using just The Sanctuary. Users can from now on charge their cell phone, PDA, Blackberry, iPod, MP3 player, and bluetooth headset simultaneously in one location.

So basically what they done is made a box with a false bottom, and underneath the false bottom is a power strip with plugs that fit the most common gadgets. Just pull up what cables you need, and put the false bottom back on. Not only is it a great place for your gadgets, but your wallet and other item that you need each day.

The Sanctuary will set you back $129, but well spent as far as I’m concerned. I see some dresser organization in the future.

Gadget of the Week: 4-port USB Car Charger

Jake Bechtold | March 26, 2008

This, my friends, is the ultimate solution in powering your gadgets in your car. I hate trying to find car chargers for my gadgets: One for the iPod, the Phone, it goes on. Why buy car chargers when all you need is a USB cable and this contraption.

4-Port USB Car Charger lets you connect to or charge 4 USB devices, such as USB fan, USB lamp, USB Ionize, MP3 player, etc at the same time. And there is a DC port for you to charge your mobile phone conveniently, too.

Sweet, eh? The DC port can come in real handy for your phones (unless you have a newer Motorolla, which is USB). And for a $12 price tag, how can you go wrong? I say it’s the coolest thing since sliced bread (I know, that’s what I said last time- and I meant it then, too!)

AirQueue USB Extender

Jake Bechtold | March 8, 2008

Yes folks, a Saturday post. I stopped back in January due to other things going on, and I would like to get back in the swing of it.

Moving right along, I’m not sure what makes this gadget compatible with the MacBook Air (versus not compatible with something else), but we’ll go with it. I give you the AirQueue.

Enter AirQueue, a 20cm (7.75in) USB 2.0 extension cable custom designed to enable USB devices with large or unusually designed connectors to work with the MacBook Air. Furthermore, AirQueue is the only USB 2.0 extender cable certified to work with Synchrotech’s MicroU2E USB ExpressCard reader. The AirQueue and MicroU2E combination allows deployment of a whole range of USB 2.0 based ExpressCards with MacBook Air.

Again, why it’s geared towards that MBA, I’ll never know. I’m pretty sure it’ll work just like any ol’ 8-inch USB extension cable, but it’s good to know people are thinking of the MacBook Air users. The best part? Only $6. Not too shabby at all.

From Under The Tree: iPod Universal Dock

Jake Bechtold | January 10, 2008

As I mentioned, the tree treated me well this year. The other cool gadget I found was the Apple Universal iPod Dock.

The Apple Universal Dock serves as a home base for charging, syncing, and more. Through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters, it works with iPhone and all iPod models that have a dock connector.

Mine sits on my desk, connected to my Laptop. As far as syncing and charging, it works just like it would hooked up to the computer with a direct cable. With the dock, your iPod is out of the way- the seller for me.

As mentioned, it comes with dock inserts for the most current iPods. Since I have a current iPod, I was just fine. If you have an older iPod, you would need to buy inserts. Also, the inserts are not labeled- just numbered. I went ahead and took a Sharpie and marked them- you may wish to do the same. READ MORE »

From Under The Tree: Kodak EasyShare C763

Jake Bechtold | January 3, 2008

It’s that time of year again- time to review the Christmas Goods. This year, I found a new Digital Camera under the tree- a very nice present indeed. I was treated with the Kodak EasyShare C763 in Copper. The camera itself is 7.1 MP camera, with a 3X aspheric optical zoom lens, Digital image stabilization, 2.5 in. (6.4 cm) indoor/outdoor color display, 10 scene and 3 color modes.

I’ve taken several dozen pictures already, and love it. I’ve got more thought after the jump. READ MORE »

Wired For Gifts: Stocking Stuffers

Jake Bechtold | December 21, 2007

This is it, the last weekend of shopping before Christmas and- Oh Crap! You forget some stocking suffers. Not to fear; Today, in this last installment of Wired For Gifts, I have some stocking stuffer ideas for you.

Flash Drive

The most inexpensive of gadgets just so happens to be the most useful one, and great stocking stuffer as well. I’m talking about USB flash drive. I talk about them all the time, and from experience, they do make great gifts.

So what size and what model, you ask? First off, it makes no sense to get anything smaller than a 1GB, just merely based on price. You can find a good 1GB Flash Drive for less than $15. That said, I recommend the Lexar JumpDrive Firefly, as small compact choice of flash drive drive. Also, my personal favorite, The SanDisk Cruzer Micro, with a retractable USB plug so you don’t have to loose the cap. Both are great options; Check out your favorite retailer to see what they have in stock.

I have one more idea after the jump. READ MORE »

Wired For Gifts: iPod Roundup

Jake Bechtold | December 7, 2007

So what are all the good little boys and girls getting this year? Many of them will be getting iPods, and if you have been looking at buying one, but don’t know the one to get, you shall be enlightened.

While the first thing to keep in mind is price, there is some reasoning behind looking at features too. For example, Hard Drive vs. Solid State, little storage vs. lots of storage, Internet or no internet, you get the idea. This guide will help you figure out which one is right for that special someone. We’ll get started after the break. READ MORE »

Wired For Gifts: Wi-Fire

Jake Bechtold | November 23, 2007

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Once again this year, I’m doing a Wired For Gadgets Holiday Gift Guide, this year known as Wired For Gifts.

We’re going to kick it off this year with the Wi-Fire from hField Technologies. I first mentioned this back in August, and this past month had the opportunity to review one.

Opening up the box, you get the Wi-Fire adapter with stand/clip that allows you to clip it to your CRT or laptop screen. Also in the box is a retractable USB extension cable and (of course) the instructions. You can read the rest after the break. READ MORE »
