Mac Tip: Turn off Data Detectors in Mail

Jake Bechtold | August 6, 2008

Time for a Mac Tip. Leopard’s new Data Detectors are really cool and handy, but often can be very annoying. If you find these unbearable, there is a way to turn them off.

Simply go to Terminal and enter:

defaults write com.apple.mail DisableDataDetectors YES.

Restart and away it goes. To bring it back, re-enter the code and change YES to NO.

Just when there was no hope for getting rid of a new but bothersome feature, terminal has come to save the day. Enjoy!
