Pownce shuts down Dec. 15th- What you need to know

Jake Bechtold | December 2, 2008

I logged into Pownce last night for the first time in a while to discover this:

Pownce will be shutting down on Dec 15, 2008. Thanks to everyone for making this community so wonderful. We appreciate your understanding!

With some questions unanswered, I dugg (krose pun intented) a little deeper to see what’s going on. It turns out the Pownce group is partering with SixApart, who developed TypePad and MovableType. Essentially, they are closing Pownce, and plan on having something much better launching 2009.

The good news is you can export all of notes you’ve written since the launch in June 2007. Head over to pownce.com/settings/export/ and they’ll send you away to save your notes.

What are your thoughts about the Pownce shutdown? Furthermore, what would you like to see in “ultimate” micro-blogging/social networking app? Put you thoughts in the comments.

I hope we all learn something new each and everyday. It is what helps to improve who we are.
