Sound Byte (Mac)

Jake Bechtold | August 16, 2007

This is a great one for you podcasters out there. Mac OS X download Soundbyte puts the Radio SFX board onto your Mac.

A computerized cart machine for your computer. It is very similar to the so-called cart machines used at radio stations in the past. Each recording – a jingle, advertisement, etc, was on a cartidge, which could be quickly selected and played.

Sound Byte brings the cart machine to the computer age. You can select up to 75 recordings per rack (screen), and assign each to a button. Clicking on a button plays that recording. You can also assign a hot key to a button, so typing that key will also play the sound. This makes Sound Byte perfect for playing sound effects at sporting and other events. Multiple recordings can be played at the same time.

As I mentioned, this is a must have for podcasters out there (or just a bunch of fun for everyone else). Soundbyte is shareware (meaning that you don’t have to pay for it, but a donation would be great) and for Mac OS X only.
