WMPC VM7700: An iMac Wannabe
Jake Bechtold | October 11, 2007
Okay, maybe calling it a wannabe is going a bit far. But it’s really is an iMac wannabe, but a good one at that. VIA is coming out with a line of low-power PC’s that, get this, mount to the back of an VESA-compatible mount LCD monitor.
Ever wonder where you’re going to hide that hideous box? Wonder no more! With a fanless, ultra thin housing featuring an industry first THRU-CHASSIS VESA mounting design, the vmpc vm7700 opens a whole new realm of possibilities for placing an embedded system. Hardware MPEG 2 / 4, WMV9 acceleration enables the vmpc vm7700 to transform any VESA compliant display into a media rich thin client or Digital Signage platform. Just pick your panel and go!
Alright, let’s get one thing straight: This IS NOT going to replace your gaming rig, or your media center, or my four-year-old eMachine, for that matter. This is meant for basic computer usage with a point on saving space. This could be seen most effective in a business type setting where space is at a premium, or in a place where you just want to hide that darn box.
This product was just announced on Monday, so there is no word on pricing or availability. But being it’s from VIA, I’d expect it well under $1000.
