From Under The Tree: Kodak EasyShare C763

It’s that time of year again- time to review the Christmas Goods. This year, I found a new Digital Camera under the tree- a very nice present indeed. I was treated with the Kodak EasyShare C763 in Copper. The camera itself is 7.1 MP camera, with a 3X aspheric optical zoom lens, Digital image stabilization, 2.5 in. (6.4 cm) indoor/outdoor color display, 10 scene and 3 color modes.
I’ve taken several dozen pictures already, and love it. I’ve got more thought after the jump.

The C763 is very easy to use. It has 10 scene modes, but only really need two (Still and Video). That said, the other modes include a Night scene and a Sports scene for actions shots. Cool if you’re into action shots and that sort of thing. But if you are just the average shlubba (like myself) the Auto will do you just fine.
The quality is also very good. A picture taken on Auto is 3072×2304- huge, until you look at how much space it takes. An average picture ranges from 880KB to just over 1MB- that’s good sized. That said, the quality is very good. What helps a ton is it’s Digital image stabilization, which reduce blur caused by camera shake or subject movement. It also helps capture sharp, clear pictures—even when shooting at long zoom lengths, in low light, or if hand is unsteady.
Now, let’s talk about picture storage. The camera comes with 32MB internal memory, which will get you roughly 30 pictures. Of course, there is an SD card slot to expand your storage capabilities. What’s more, is that it will automatically switch sources if one is full. So if you fill your internal memory, it will go to the SD card, if one is in (and visa versa). Very convenient.
Also, as mentioned, you can take videos too. It captures video at TV quality VGA (640×480) at 15 frames per second. Not quite camcorder quality, but good enough to get the job done.
Other cool features include on-camera cropping, digital red-eye reduction, and blurry picture alert- allowing you to create stunning pics on the fly. And Gallery view will help you find that awesome shot fast to show to friends on the camera’s 2.5-inch screen.
So what’s missing? Not much. The only thing that has potential to be improved is the video quality. But then again, this is a still camera, not a camcorder- so I don’t expect miracles in this department.
The Kodak EasyShare C763 comes complete with Li-Ion battery, Battery charger, AC adapter, USB cable, Wrist strap, Kodak Software (for PC and Mac)and Camera insert for optional KODAK EasyShare Camera and Printer Docks.
Here’s the catch folks. I have the copper edition of the C763. Between the time this was purchased and the time of writing this post, Kodak discontinued the copper version of this camera- it is only available in silver (according the the website). If color doesn’t bother you, then you’ll be fine. If you are possessed to have color, then I recomend the Kodak M753, which is almost the same thing (other than HD quality stills).
So if you’re looking for a simple Point-and-Shoot digital camera that will do the trick, the C763 us the one for you. The Kodak EasyShare C763 will set you back around $125. You can find more info on this camera on Kodak’s website.
