History of the “original” Wired For Gadgets (May 2004-June 2009)

The website was started under the name “JakeBechtold.net” in May 2004. It stayed as a homepage, containing a mirage of different things on it. By the time May of 2005 rolled around, it became very evident that JakeBechtold.net would develop to be a tech website, with more frequent updates. At the time, Microsoft Word was used to put together the pages.

By June 2005, Word became hard to work with as far as webpages were concerned. So on June 14, 2005, JakeBechtold.net moved to Blogsome.com, a free Wordpress host. On October 1st, 2005, the name changed to JakeBechtold.com, because the domain name had become available. The site continued to grow for months to come.

On April 10, 2006, the entire site, archives and all, was moved to Wired For Gadgets.com. At the time, new domain name would better define the site and what it’s about.

By December 2006, it was clear that Blogsome was no longer serving the site’s needs. Thanks to GoDaddy, the site as moved to dedicated hosting, thus improving website performance and reliability.

In April 2007, WFG celebrated one year under the “new” name. It also meant it had been almost two years without a major design change. So on April 25, 2007, a modified version of the K2 theme was implemented. It was just the boost the site needed.

From August 2007 until the site’s hiatus in June 2009, a new feature, Manic Monday was created, not only reduce stress, but also to incorporate the news element the site had been missing.

Hiatus (June 2009-June 2010)

Beginning sometime in June 2009, Wired For Gadgets was put on the back-burner. The site remained inactive and not upadted until June 2010.
